Richmond was founded in 1798 by Colonel John Miller a Revolutionary War Soldier. On July 4, 1798 Richmond was established as the seat of Madison County. The site was officially named Richmond in honor of Miller’s birthplace, Richmond, Virginia. Richmond is seeing a period of rapid growth. During the 1990’s the population grew at such a rapid rate, Richmond was designated as the fastest growing city in Kentucky.
